Why Bother With Sun Sign Astrology?

Everyone knows their "Sun Sign" thanks to various "Horrorscope" columns in the 
newspapers, magazines, and now offered on the Internet. But as I said last week, 
anyone who has successfully made it past fourth grade also knows that 
approximately one twelfth of the earth’s population will not have the same events 
happen on any one day.

Every person in an unique individual, even identical twins. Identical twins don’t 
come "out of the gate" together, unless it is a caesarian birth and there is more 
than one doctor. The soul or "spirit", the part of you that is eternal. Each soul 
will have a different history because of different sojourns in past lives. But by 
choosing the same parents and day to be born they will have very similar 
experiences and lessons to learn this life.

The Ascendant moves one degree approximately every 4 minutes. There are 
Astrological Signs that take a long time to rise and Signs that rise quickly in 
the Northern hemisphere. The Ascendant is the cusp of your First House. It 
determines the placement of the cusps of the various houses. There are actually 
14 different House Systems used in Astrology. Only about five get much play: - 
Equal, Placidus, Koch, Porphyry, Campanus, and Regiomontanus. And today there are 
Astrologers who do not use any House system. But that is an essay for another day. 
The Astrological House is like a setting, scene, where the action takes place in 
a movie or the theater of life. Your Mars in the Third House is very different 
than a Mars in the Fourth house, no matter how aspected. If your natal Mars is 
in your Fourth House you had better keep a fire extinguisher handy, especially 
in the kitchen.

Since the 1930’s in America there has been several Astrologers, and even some 
people who were not Astrologers (i.e. Jeanne Dixon), who wrote "Sun Sign" columns 
for the newspapers. They all used the Moon as the minute hand on the Astrological 
clock to write their column. The Moon moves approximately 1 degree every 2 hours, 
so it will be in one sign for about two and one half days. The authors of these 
column regard the sign of your Sun automatically as your First House. Some regard 
the first degree of your Astrological Sign as the cusp of your First House and 
some regard the 15th degree of your sign as the cusp of your First House. It is 
helpful for you to know the degree your Sun was in the Sign. For example, today 
February 20, the Moon is in Virgo, Virgo’s are supposed to be having a rip roaring 
day and Leo’s, the sign behind Virgo are supposed to have some trouble with their 
finances, because Virgo would be the second house of all Leos. And Pisces are 
having a troublesome day with partners, the Seventh house of Virgos. The aspects 
that the moon makes on that day come into play. Today’s aspect of the Moon trine 
to Saturn was nice enough but it was when most people were sleeping, 6:39 AM EST 
to 3:39 AM PST. Then it was all downhill. Moon squared Pluto at 8:26 AM EST and 
was opposite Mercury at 3:59 PM EST. Then the moon was Void of Course for the 
rest of the day. That is the subject for another essay too. Today would be called 
a "slow news" day in the Media.

Well, it just doesn’t work that way because people are born all over the day, 
not just in the early morning hours, the only time when your Sun Sign would be 
on the Ascendant. Therefore today the moon could be in Virgo’s 8th house, taxes 
(yes it is that time again), sex, and other people’s money! It can be in any 
house. And naturally the Sun and the Moon are not the only planetary energies 
operating in your life. Saturn has been roughing up those with their Sun in the 
middle degrees of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius. Middle degrees of Aquarius 
are getting a double dose from Saturn and Uranus. Anyone with their Sun in the 
early degrees of Aquarius are wondering where everything is since Neptune is 
working at dissolving their egos right now. Just finished a chart where the 
planet of chaos, sudden change, lightening strikes - Uranus, is square the 
person’s Sun and Moon which are in opposition in the natal chart. Uranus was 
squaring their natal Sun and Moon at birth in the sign of Leo. Uranus is right 
now transiting at 17 degrees Aquarius. So live is definitely not dull for this 
person. Like it or not, big change is on the horizon. They need to ride loose in 
the saddle. This opposition of Uranus to it’s birth place in your chart will 
happen around age 40-42 in everyone’s life. The age 40 to 42 is one of the toughest 
times in a person’s life.

Most columnist keep their short two sentences for each Sign on the sweet side. 
This is the power of suggestion. If you are told it will be a great day, with 
luck, your expectations will be met or you will remember only the positive moments 
of the day. Accent the positive! They are fun to read but seldom accurate. Ideally, 
everyone should at least know their Sun, Moon and Ascendant Sign. Then they should 
read their Ascendant Sign first in the various columns and then their Sun Sign.

Archer’s Parting Shot: Lust is one of the least common reasons for promiscuity. 
Boredom, loneliness, envy, revenge, and pride are more frequently the reason.
